Acting Comptroller Kelly Hancock Files for Full Term as Texas’ Chief Financial Officer
Today, Acting Comptroller Kelly Hancock officially filed with the Republican Party of Texas to continue serving as Comptroller of Public Accounts.
Governor Greg Abbott asked Hancock to serve as Acting Comptroller over five months ago to fill a vacancy as the state’s CFO. Governor Abbott has also endorsed his campaign, citing Hancock’s proven conservative leadership, small business experience, and undefeated electoral record against both Republicans and Democrats. Since stepping into the role, Hancock has strengthened transparency, cut regulatory barriers, and delivered real results for Texas taxpayers.
“In the past five months we’ve made incredible progress to protect taxpayers and grow the Texas economy,” said Acting Comptroller Hancock. “My goal in this office is to operate at the speed of business, not bureaucracy. I’m happy to say we’re doing that as we launch some historic programs like Texas Education Freedom, Texas DOGE, Immigration and Customs Enforcement Sheriff grants, and suspending DEI in state contracting. Texas is the eighth-largest economy in the world, and our mission is to keep it strong, competitive, and free. I’m committed to responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars and ensuring Texas remains the best place to live, work, and raise a family.”
Under Hancock’s leadership, the Comptroller’s office has:
- Prepared the largest day-one school choice program in U.S. history, the Texas Education Freedom Accounts.
- Banned DEI in state contracting by suspending the Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) program and beginning a full compliance review.
- Strengthened border security through new law enforcement grants supporting sheriffs who work directly with federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement to detain and remove criminal illegal immigrants.
- Appointed to Advisory Panel of the new Texas DOGE (Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office)
- Protected taxpayers by investigating local government fraud, waste, and abuse in partnership with the Texas Rangers and Attorney General’s Office
- Expanded transparency and modernization efforts, upgrading decades-old financial systems to streamline taxpayer services.
Hancock’s election record is also unmatched: he’s won every race he’s entered, from school board to State Representative to State Senator. In the Senate, he fought for a balanced budget by passing a spending cap, served on the budget-writing Finance Committee for a decade, and cut regulations by leading the Business and Commerce Committee. He worked with President Donald Trump and Governor Abbott to build the Texas border wall, fund border security, and support Operation Lone Star. He also sponsored key election integrity reforms, including ending straight-ticket voting in primary elections. Hancock voted for every property tax cut to cross his desk and continues fighting for Texans’ right to own their homes outright.
A broad coalition of Texas law enforcement, business, and industry leaders has endorsed Hancock’s campaign. He has earned the support of top public safety organizations including the Dallas Police Association, Ft. Worth Police Officers Association, Arlington Police Association, Houston Police Officers Union, DPS Officers Association, and CLEAT. He is also endorsed by major business and industry groups like Association of Builders and Contractors, Texas Restaurant Association, Texas Hospital Association, Texas Apartment Association PAC, Texas Trucking Association, plus rural and agricultural leaders like Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association, and Rural Friends of Electric Cooperatives PAC.
