Kelly Hancock Statement on U.S. Supreme Court's Obamacare Ruling

Presidents leave something in their wake: a legacy.  It has been said that those who write history determine history.  Today, the Supreme Court ruled on the Affordable Care Act, which could be considered President Obama’s most signature policy proposal.  So, what will be the legacy of President Obama’s first term?

Some may argue that it will be ending the reign of Osama Bin Laden, passing mandated healthcare or issuing more debt than any president in history.  However, it’s likely that history will prove his legacy to include the dwindling standing of the U.S. Supreme Court.

It is a rare occasion when the Supreme Court has the chance to shape the economy, the healthcare system and the limits of government power.

Today, the Supreme Court had that opportunity and has decided to uphold the Affordable Care Act with the exception of the portion regarding the allocation of Medicaid funds to states if they are not spent according to the Federal government’s parameters.

Today marks one of the most historic decisions of modern time.  Not only was the ACA upheld but it will be the largest individual tax increase we have ever seen.   So, what is next?   NOVEMBER.  Your vote matters.  Your vote not only determines who represents you, but in the case of legislation and appointments, determines the future of our country, our state and our future generations.

We face the future with much uncertainty; but, one thing that’s certain is the importance of the next election.
